5 mins with Richard Peters, CEO, Peters Research Ltd.

Can you tell us about your business – when it was formed and what you do?

Peters Research was formed in 1997 and creates world-leading software for lift traffic analysis and control. Our flagship product, Elevate, is used by companies around the world to analyse and simulate passenger demand and quality of service. It helps designers select the number, size and speed of lifts for new buildings, and assess the performance benefits of modernising existing installations.

We also develop Elevate Dispatch, our traffic control system, which brings together our long experience in lift traffic analysis, simulation and control.

How many times have you exhibited at the Lift & Escalator Symposium?

This will be our first time exhibiting at the Lift & Escalator Symposium. However, Peters Research has presented papers at every Symposium since the event began in 2011. I also co-chair the conference and am a trustee of the charity that runs it, so the event has been an important part of our calendar for many years.

Why is the event important for you to attend?

The Symposium is an excellent opportunity to share our research, discuss new ideas, and learn from other speakers, delegates and exhibitors. It brings together people from across the lift and escalator industry who are interested in technical development, practical application and future challenges.

What key themes are you seeing with customers this year?

Building and lift requirements are becoming increasingly complex, creating new and interesting challenges for our work in traffic analysis and dispatching. We are seeing more projects where standard assumptions are not enough, and where careful modelling, simulation and control strategies are needed to deliver good passenger service.

What can delegates expect to see on your stand?

Delegates can expect to see Elevate Dispatch, our lift traffic control system. We will demonstrate how our experience in traffic analysis and simulation can be applied directly to controlling real lift systems.

What would you say to someone who has not attended before?

Book early to avoid disappointment! The event was sold out last year, and this year we have a full speaker programme again. It is a very worthwhile event for anyone involved in lift and escalator design, specification, research, installation, maintenance or modernisation.
