5 mins with Jason Godwin, Key Account Manager Elevator & Escalator for Northern Europe, CEDES.

Can you tell us about your business – when it was formed and what you do?

CEDES began in Switzerland in 1986 and so this year we shall proudly celebrate our 40th anniversary.  We started with a focus on photo-electric safety barriers for lifts and that remains a core part of our business today, with a range of light curtain safety edges that now extends to 2D and 3D versions with red/green signalization. The light curtains are smart-enabled, which means you can connect them to our Data Hub to get valuable insights on the health of your equipment. Over the years, CEDES has grown to serve other industries with similar demands, such as industrial doors and, most recently, warehouse automation, where the proximity of humans to robotic devices or autonomous vehicles presents safety challenges.

How many times have you exhibited at the Lift & Escalator Symposium?

CEDES delegates have been attending the Symposium continuously in recent years, and we are excited for the opportunity to exhibit for the second time in 2026. Polina Rukin and Christoph Rüdiger from CEDES will also be presenting a paper with insights on lift monitoring.

Why is the event important for you to attend?

We value the intimate character of the Symposium as it provides an opportunity to meet very knowledgeable and informed delegates who are eager to see and learn about lift innovation and hopefully become CEDES customers, directly or indirectly, in the future.

What key themes are you seeing with customers this year?

Technology in the lift engineering is moving faster than ever, with digital services and communications being a key driver. We all benefit continuously from digital interactions, and so customers are expecting such technology to also positively impact lift performance, convenience, and reliability. As an example, here at CEDES, our Data Hub is continually gathering data from customer lifts fitted with the CEDES Elevate remote monitoring solution to deliver actionable insights, alerts and trend analytics to all stakeholders, improving maintenance efficiency and building usage.

What can delegates expect to see on your stand?

On our stand at the Lift & Escalator Symposium, delegates will see the CEDES Elevate remote monitoring solution using our latest smart-enabled light curtain with red/green signalization.

What would you say to someone who has not attended before?

If you want to learn about technology trends in lift engineering, then the Lift & Escalator Symposium is a must. It is also unbeatable as a lift industry networking event.
